Kick-off time for World University Wushu Championship

Inaugural edition begins in Macao 

 

MACAO — An ancient martial art in a modern setting. Student athletes competing at a world-class level. It’s all happening in Macao this week, as the  inaugural edition of the FISU World University Wushu Championship kicked off with a grand Opening Ceremony.

 

Wushu athletes from 25 countries and regions marched energetically into the at the Fisherman’s Wharf Convention and Exhibition Centre, as the Championship was officially declared open. After the flag raising and FISU anthem, the Opening Ceremony also featured a traditional Portuguese folk dance and cheerleading performance to showcase the convergence of cultures in the city of Macao.

 

The four-day tournament begins with Taijiquan and Taijijian competitions followed by the Sanda preliminary competition. Wushu, which first made it to the FISU sports programme during the 2017 Taipei Summer Universiade as a non-compulsory sport, is all set to begin its own legacy at the FISU World University Championships.
