2010 WUC Wrestling: Final Day & Closing

TORINO – Yesterday, Saturday, October 30th, was the last day of competitions at the 9th WUC Wrestling in Torino, Italy, with the elimination rounds in Greco-Roman 60 – 74 and 96 kg categories and repechages and finals in the afternoon from 16:30 onwards.

The 4 awarding ceremony medals for the 4 finals 60, 74 and 96kg were given by CTI Chair for the WUC Ibrahim Cicioglu, FISU CTI Chair Meziane Hasnaoui, FISU CIC Delegate and Eberhard Pröst, FILA delegate from Germany.

For Freestyle men, Russia is the first country having won a total of 5 medals at this Championship – 2 gold and 3 bronze – followed by Ukraine, with a total of 4 medals – 3 silver and 1 bronze – and Iran with 1 gold and 3 bronze medals. Japan won a total of 2 gold medals.

For the women, the total of 5 medals was won by Ukraine, Canada and Japan. Ukraine and Canada with 2 gold medals, 1 silver and 2 bronze and Japan with 1 gold, 2 silver and bronze. USA won 2 gold medals and 2 bronze medals.

In Greco-Roman style, the Iran team got 7 medals, from which 3 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze, just before Turkey with 6 medals – 1 gold, 1 silver and 4 bronze.

After playing the Italian Anthem, entrance of the flags of the 32 participating countries, march pass of the participants, the awarding ceremony for the cup of  teams for Greco-Roman style was part of the closing ceremony activities.

CISCA Chair Sinisa Jasnic made a speech, offering a FISU plaque to Ricardo D’Elicio, CUSI representative, Gianluigi Canata, CUS Torino Board Member, and Aldo Albanese, FIJLKAM Vice-President.

The closing speech for the 9th World University Wrestling Championship was made by Riccardo D’Elicio, President CUS Torino, who handed over of the FISU flag from Sinisa Jasnic to the next organiser represented by Akselis Hakala, Head of the Delegation and Vice-President of the Finnish Students Sports Federation. The 10th edition of the World University Wrestling Championship will take place in 2012 in Kuortane, Finland. Aleksis Hakala invited all countries to be present.

‘A big thanks to the Organizing Committee for the success of this event!’, said Sinisa Jasnic, officially closing this 9th edition. ‘See you in two years!’
