11th WUC Wrestling – Training Day

 Weigh-in of the wrestlers

PECS – The organizers of the 11th World University Wrestling Championship held the final rehearsals yesterday 7 July in the sports hall, while in the warm-up zone lots of wrestlers were training. Some participants have already finished the medical examination and weigh-in, and the organizers gave a press conference.

On Monday morning, there were 25 nations on the accreditation list. So there will be 280 University students wrestling on the mat in Pécs.

On Monday afternoon, the first steps towards the competition were officially taken with the weigh-in and the technical conference.

Press Conference

In the press conference, the representative of the FISU, Cheng Fave Seetow greeted the journalists, then Prof. Dr. Ádám Kiss, president of the Hungarian University Sports Federation and Dr. Csaba Hegedüs, president of the Hungarian Wrestling Federation said some words about the upcoming World University Championship hosted in Pécs. Csaba Nagy, deputy mayor of Pécs greeted the participants and fans in the name of the City of Pécs. The two-time Olympic Champion, Attila Vári, chief executive officer of Pécsi Sport Nonprofit Zrt. also welcomed the participants in the name of the Lauber Dezső Sports Hall. Zsolt Németh, wrestler of the University Pécs competing in 59 kg promised that all wrestlers will do their best in Pécs. Dr. Gyula Zeller, vice-rector of the University of Pécs closed the greetings, summarizing the work of the Organising Committee. Last, but not least, Tamás Téczely, secretary of the OC said some useful words about this week’s programme.
