11th WUC Wrestling – Day 2 of Competitions

PECS – In FW 48 kg, the Japanese Ito Siori started the day really well, then she had a big fight against the Ukrainian Rybak Iryna. The Canadian Jasmine Mian had a really balanced game against Madalina Linguraru in the 1/8 final, then she won against the Polish Anna Lukasiak. In the final, Siori did her best, but Mian was better, so she became champion at the 11th World University Wrestling Championship.

“The competition was really good, the organizers did a great job. Of course, I am happy, as I have won the championship, but I need to improve some parts of my wrestling. 12 girls were in my weight category, lots of them are really strong and good wrestlers. I lost some important games against Japanese wrestlers earlier, so I am happy now as I have beaten a very prepared Japenese girl”, Jasmine Mian explained.

In FW 55 kg, the best wrestler out of the 8 competitors was the Japanese Hamada Chiho. She wrestled really fine during the whole day winning the gold beating Russian Irina Ologonova. Bronze was left for Samantha Stewart (CAN) and Tetyana Kit (UKR).

In FS 61 kg the Mongolian Tumenbileg had a great match against the Bulgarian Stefan Ivanov, then he beat Ismai  Avci in the semi-final. Bernard Futrell beat the Moldovan Vadim Sacultan and the Russian Skriabin Niurgun. In the final, the Mongolian performed better and became world champion. “It was a really good championship, the wrestlers were really strong. I think it is a big victory. We haven’t seen anything from the city yet, but tomorrow we will visit the famous places of Pécs”, said Tumenbileg.

In FS 70 kg, James Green (USA) and Evgheni Nedealco (MDA) got into the final, the Moldovan has beaten the American wrestler with bronze going to Shamil Magomedov (RUS) and Zsombor Gulyas (HUN).

In FS 86 kg, Piotr Ianulov (MDA) won the championship beating Chris Perry (USA), while Ophir Bersntein (ISR) and Namik Korkmaz (TUR) got the bronze.

Eight wrestlers were participating in FS 125 kg, the American Tyrell Fortune did a great job on the second competition day of the championship. He wrestled some spectacular matches. “It was a great day for me. It was a bit hot in here, I was sweating a lot. I have already seen the centre of the city, Hungary is one of my favourite countries, people are so nice here”, said Fortune who won the gold beating Sakir Bozkurt (TUR). The bronze went to Mariyan Todorov (BUL) and Richard Csercsics (HUN).

The final ranking of the freestyle team competition ended as follows 1. USA, 2. Turkey, 3. Russian Federation.
