Winter Universiade 2019 organisers and the Krasnoyarsk airport prepare to welcome the world

KRASNOYARSK, RUSSIA — The travel into the heart of Siberia for next year’s Winter Universiade got even a little more comfortable today as the 2019 organisers and the Krasnoyarsk airport today signed an agreement for preparing the airport for participants and guests to the event which will take place next March.

Krasnoyarsk 2019 Director General, Maxim Urazov, and the Krasnoyarsk international airport director, Andrey Metsler, signed a cooperation agreement for the period of the preparation and delivery of the Games. The airport will provide services for guests and participants of test events and the Winter Universiade 2019 itself at the top level, meeting FISU’s travel requirements.

The information welcome desk will be arranged at the Krasnoyarsk airport during the preparation for the Games to meet and accompany the guests of competition. The airport terminals will feature information and navigation systems for dedicated lines of passport & custom control.

With the help of these and other activities, the Directorate of the Winter Universiade 2019 and the Krasnoyarsk airport look to provide guests and participants with comfortable conditions of arrival to and departure from Krasnoyarsk.

“Krasnoyarsk airport is the first thing that our guests will see when arriving at the test events and directly to the competitions of the Winter Universiade 2019” Mr. Urasov said.  “The impression that the athletes, delegates, volunteers have from the airport will have the direct impact on their general impression of Krasnoyarsk and the Games. I'm sure we can be proud of such ‘gates to the city’ as our airport.”

The new Krasnoyarsk terminal is part of a comprehensive transport plan for the burgeoning hub of sport and industry

During his turn, Mr. Metsler emphasised how the updated airport is ready to welcome the world to this key outpost. “Launched in 2017, the new passenger terminal meets all world level standards of service,” the airport’s director general said. “High capacity and technological equipment will ensure the competitions guests service at the highest level. It is important for us, that from the very first minutes of staying on the Krasnoyarsk land, the guests have a positive impression of the city and the region. We plan to apply out team’s experience gained during preparation of Sochi airport within the delivery of the 2014 Winter Olympics.”

As hinted my Mr. Metsler, the new international terminal of Krasnoyarsk airport started to operate in the late 2017. The modern air terminal complex is equipped with the advanced equipment providing comfort and safety for passengers, with a capacity for up to five million annual passengers According to the Krasnoyarsk Territory Government, the airport development project includes plans to build a railway line connecting the airport and the city of Krasnoyarsk.
