Krasnoyarsk gets ready for FISU Forum, ahead of Winter Universiade

Winter Games 20 July 2018

Two weeks to go for the FISU Forum!

In two weeks’ time, the FISU Forum will offer a glimpse into the Siberian city of Krasnoyarsk, host of The Winter Universiade 2019. The FISU Forum is the third test event leading up to the Winter Universiade 2019, and will be held in Krasnoyarsk from 6-10 August.

It is a premiere educational conference, held by FISU every two years. The theme of the Forum this year is Student Sport — Springboard for Innovative Leadership, which is closely aligned with FISU’s motto of ‘Today’s Stars, Tomorrow’s Leaders’. The Forum is aimed at popularisation of the ideas of youth sports, strengthening of international cooperation and supporting of student projects in this field.

Participating in the FISU Forum in Krasnoyarsk will be students from different countries, representatives of the National University Sports Federations (NUSF), members of the world scientific community and well-known experts in the field of student sports and education. Students of the Siberian Federal University (SibFU) will also take part in the Forum as part of the Russian delegation.

Students, sports leaders and specialists interested in the development of sports will discuss issues related to the student sports movement, education, medicine, ethics and culture of sport. Meetings of three FISU committees will also be held: Educational Committee, Students Committee and Committee for Gender Equality. About 200 people from more than 40 countries will take part in the event. Alexey Moshkin, two-time gold medalist of the Paralympic Games in Alpine skiing, will be the speaker of the educational session and will give a lecture on equal opportunities in sports.

The FISU Forum will also be a test platform for a number of activities of the Krasnoyarsk 2019 Winter Universiade: the efficiency of transportation, accreditation services, catering, cultural programmes and much more will be assessed. In addition, the readiness of the Universiade Village will also be tested. The residences of the Siberian Federal University have been developed as an Athletes’ Village for the Winter Universiade, and delegates of the FISU Forum will have the rare opportunity to live in the future Athletes’ Village. 200 volunteers scheduled to work at the Winter Universiade have also been recruited for the organisation of the Forum.

Krasnoyarsk is set to be a memorable host of the 14th edition of the FISU Forum, setting the tone for a grand Winter Universiade 2019.
