FISU President visits CUS Torino

TORINO - FISU President Oleg Matytsin visited the Turin branch of CUSI (Italian NUSF), CUS Torino.
On this occasion, he met with its president, Riccardo D'Elicio.
A working meeting brought together both presidents and a delegation from the Organising Committee of the Winter Universiade of Krasnoyarsk 2019 .
The main focus of the meeting agenda was the possibility of organising the lighting of the flame of the next Winter Universiade in the city of Turin. Indeed, the idea would be to couple the ignition of the flame with the celebrations of the International University Sports Day. The inaugural lighting of the WU flame would therefore be held on 20 September 2018, a few months before the start of the Winter Universiade in Krasnoyarsk.

The two presidents agreed on the principle. FISU, CUS Torino and the Krasnoyarsk OC 2019 will work together for the success of this celebration.
The FISU President warmly thanked Riccardo D'Elicio for his hospitality and for the enthusiasm developed by his organisation.
President Matytsin also welcomed the strengthening of the links between CUS Torino and FISU.

Visiting the offices of the CUS Torino
The CUS Torino is the organisation from which Primo Nebiolo, former President of FISU (1961-1999) organised the first Universiade in 1959. This was the starting point for the formidable expansion of university sport throughout the world and consequently of FISU.

This FISU agreement with the CUS Torino is in the perspective of a better match between FISU sports activities and the project to better promote its values. In this sense the cooperation between these two organisations is very significant since it marks a return to the foundations of the University Sports Movement. It will undoubtedly be the starting point for further partnerships between FISU and its members. It will also allow better integration of the Organising Committees of future Universiades into the history and values of FISU.
