Success for the FISU Summer Universiade Conference – Gwangju 2015

LAUSANNE – The FISU Conference Opening Ceremony took place on July 11th at the City Hall of the Gwangju. 600 participants attended the ceremony that was divided in two main parts. The academic part dedicated to the Conference itself and the other part devoted to the launch of the FISU-GUOC-Wada textbook project.

 

FISU President Claude-Louis Gallien together with Jang-Hyun Yoon, GUOC President and Mayor of Gwangju, officially opened the Conference which main theme was: ”The Impact of University Sport on the Global Community”. Two key-note speakers, Mike Laflin, CEO of Sportcal and of the “Global Sports Impact Project” and Chong Yang Kim, President of Hanyang University, presented the main theme.

This edition of the Summer Conference encounter a real success as 630 participants were officially registered for the event, 120 persons submitted posters and 281 papers. The Honam University was the academic partner of this event.

 

 

The launching ceremony of the FISU-GUOC-Wada textbook project consisted of a panel session discussion in which took part Claude-Louis Gallien, FISU President, Edwin Moses, Chair of the Wada Education Committee, Larry Rink, Chair of the FISU Medical Committee, Yoon-Suk Kim, Secretary General of the GUOC, Eun Kyung Kim, Seoul National University, Marc Peltier, University of Nice. Dr. Taek Rim Yoon, Chief of Cheonnam University Hospital was the moderator. Next to the panel discussion, Eric Saintrond, FISU Secretary General, explained the reasons of the involvement of FISU to this program and Tony Cunningham, Wada Manager, Education and NADO/RADO Relations, presented the results of the Pilot year.

FISU-WADA-GUOC Anti-Doping Programme aims to encourage universities and institutions of higher education to provide their students with model curricula that would give them a comprehensive overview of doping in sport and issues related to it in the framework of their studies. The concrete outcomes are an e-textbook for students and support teaching material for instructors, all accessible free of charge through an online platform, the Anti-Doping Learning Hub. From September 2015 the e-textbook will be available in English, French, Korean, Russian and Spanish. The Anti-Doping Learning Hub (http://antidopinglearninghub.org/)
