UNESCO Meeting on Sport

FISU 31 March 2017

PARIS – On 30 and 31 March 2017 the CIGEPS and PCC extra-ordinary meeting took place at the UNESCO Headquarters. The main purpose of the meeting was to draft the official resolution and documents that will be discussed and submitted to the UNESCO 6th International Conference of ministers and senior officials responsible for Physical Education and Sport (MINEPS VI). This meeting will be held from 13 to 15 July in the Russian city of Kazan. We must underline that for FISU, the fact that MINEPS VI will be hosted by the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan, is an important legacy of the 2013 Summer Universiade.

Verena Burk, First Assessor and Chair of the Education Committee and Kolë Gjeloshaj, Director of Educational Services represented FISU at this meeting. FISU advocates to integrate into the resolution a clearer mention of the role of higher education institutions and their programmes such as the ‘dual career’.

During the meeting the delegates made a picture with the card which is an activity promoted by ‘Peace and Sport Organisation’ in the context of the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace celebrated on 6 April.
