RIO DE JANEIRO – 28-year old German gymnast Fabian Hambüchen, gold medal winner of the Gwangju Universiade at the horizontal bar and laureate of the ‘FISU Best Male Athlete Award’ in 2015, has won the Olympic gold medal in Rio de Janeiro. After an exciting competition in the Rio Olympic Arena Hambüchen, who exercised first of all in the final at the horizontal bar, ended on the top of the medal podium leaving Danell Leyva (USA) and Nile Wilson (GBR) in second and third place. After a bronze medal in Beijing 2008 and a silver medal in London 2012 he has now completed his Olympic medal collection at the end of his career. Hambüchen, who is a student at the German Sport University Cologne, was also decorated twice with the National Best Male Athlete Award of the German University Sports Federation in 2013 and 2015.
