2009 SU Update: 1st Head of Delegation Meeting

Summer Games 27 June 2009

Today, June 27th, the first Heads of Delegations meeting was held at the Sava Centre in Belgrade.

Deputy Prime Minister Bozidar Djelic, Chairman of the UB2009 Organizing Committee attended the meeting and addressed the Heads of Delegations who were present. ‘You will see Belgrade as it is’, Mr. Djelic said. ‘We have mobilized a lot of resources of the city government and our own. The Opening Ceremony you will witness in a few days is all done by our University people: the software, the dancers, the choreography. We want to show you our country, but we want you to show us your country as well. Therefore we have planned some activities at the Lakeside where you can show what your country stands for to the people from Belgrade and Serbia’, Mr. Djelic continued. ‘Be assured of your security as we deployed a great police force, almost 1 police officer per participant. In fact you could speak of a ‘Policiade’, the Deputy PM joked. ‘To assure you of the quality of the food of the restaurant, I will eat there myself once a day. The Universiade is a wonderful opportunity. It’s great to have you here!’

FISU President also addressed the HoDs present. ‘The major factors to have good Games are good housing and good food’, Mr. Killian said. ‘As you have noticed the Village is brand new and I went to the Restaurant today to check with the athletes who were happy with their meals. Be positive and let us know if you encounter any problems.’

After Mr. Killian’s speech the floor was open for Questions and Answers.
