Ski Orienteering Inspection Visit launches 2018 WUC season

TARTU – On 27 February, FISU delegated Mr Valentin GARKOV (Ski Orienteering FISU Technical Delegate) and Paulo FERREIRA (WUC Director), visited the Tartu that will host the 2018 FISU World University Ski Orienteering Championship, which will take place in February next year.

The FISU delegates started the morning in the Hotel Tartu, checking the accommodation that will be used by the participants and possible accreditation area and meeting rooms necessary for the smooth running of this second edition of the Ski Orienteering in FISU. The delegates then proceeded to inspect the competition venues shortlisted for the Championship in Tartu Tähtvere Leisure Park and Mammaste Ski Park. They were joined by Mr. Tarmo JAAKSON (Secretary General of the Estonian Academic Sports Federation), Mr. Sven ORAS (WUC Ski Orienteering event director), Mr. Paul POOPUU (CEO of Estonian Orienteering Federation), Mr. Jaak TEPPAN (local Orienteering Club representative) and Mr Marti VIILU (Director of Tähtvere Leisure Park). The FISU Ski Orienteering delegate was very satisfied with the competition areas provided both in Tartu and Mammaste.

 

EASF President Ants VEETOUSME received the FISU flag at the 1st edition in Tula (RUS) in 2016. 

The afternoon was spent in meetings at the Estonian Academic Sports Federation Headquarter. The delegates were joined by Mr. Sixten SILD, the local Technical Delegate came to meet the FISU delegates and discuss the event preparations. During the meeting, all technical aspects of the organisation were overviewed, addressing the critical areas, as well as how to guarantee that the Organising Committee will be ready and host a great Championship in 2018. Everybody agreed to say that Tartu has a high potential to organise a high quality WUC next year.
