BUCS creates New Rugby Union League: BUCS Super Rugby

LONDON – BUCS, with the backing of England Rugby has launched its new rugby union league, called ‘BUCS Super Rugby’. The new league will see the top 8 men’s teams in the country battle it out for the right to go head-to-head in the final, held at Twickenham on 30March 2017.

The league was launched at Twickenham with a media day that included the coaches and captains of the competing universities and it created 1,000 pieces of media coverage in the following week: http://www.englandrugby.com/news/bucs-super-rugby-launched-twickenham/

The first matches took place on Wednesday 5 October, with great attendance figures: Loughborough vs Exeter attracting a crowd of 3,600 and Durham vs Hartpury played in front of a crowd of over 2,000. To put that in context, the 2nd tier of professional rugby (“The Championship”) in England averages 1,470 this season.

To date, the social engagement has been great, with the #BUCSSuperRugby hashtag delivering 2.6 million impressions, and a reach to over 1 million accounts.
