Olympic and Universiade Champ strikes again at Worlds

Olympic, World and Universiade Champion Kanaeva in action in Shenzhen

 

BRUSSELS – At the recent 31st FIG Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championships held in Montpellier, France from September 19th to 25th, 2011, Olympic (2008) and double Universiade (2009 & 2011) Champion Evgenia Kanaeva (RUS) topped the competition.

Kanaeva outscored her compatriot Kondakova, the All-around marks Kanaeva’s sixth Gold medal at this tournament, after having won all Apparatus Finals and helpedRussiato Gold in the Team event. With her success a repeat performance of the record she set two years ago inJapanwhere she called a full house at a world championship event for the first time in her career.

Kaeneva was not the only Universiade present at the event. Twenty two participants of the Rhythmic Gymnastics competitions at the Universiade were present at the FIG World Championships.

The most successful student-athletes at the FIG Worlds besides Kaeneva were Aliya Garayeva (AZE), silver clubs in Shenzhen and winning bronze overall at the Worlds and Liubou Charkashyna (BLR) 4th overall and winning bronze in Ball, who also won bronze in Ball and Ribbon at the SU in Shenzhen.

Others featured in the top eight of the competitions and the final all-around ranking, which confirms once again that the Rhythmic Gymnastics competition at the Universiade has a pretty high competition level.

5. MAKSYMENKO Alina (UKR) – 4th in All-Around Final Ranking at 2011 SU

9. TROFIMOVA Ulyana (UZB) – 7th in All-Around Final Ranking at 2011 SU

13. DENG Senyue (CHN) – 6th in All-Around Final Ranking at 2011 SU

15. WEBER Caroline (AUT) – 12th in All-Around Final Ranking at 2011 SU

22. YAMAGUCHI Runa (JPN) – 15th in All-Around Final Ranking at 2011 SU

24. RODRIGUEZ Carolina (ESP) – 14th in All-Around Final Ranking at 2011 SU
