FISU Education Committee Meeting, Brussels October 20-21

FISU 22 October 2012

On October 20th-21st the FISU Education Committee met for a two-day working session at the FISU offices in Brussels.  All members of the committee were present.

Chair Alison Odell explained that from now on the name of the committee officially changes its denomination from the Committee for the Study of University Sport (CESU) to the Education Committee (EduC). After the report of Student Committee (CdE) coordinator Renata Bojczuk, the Chair presented the cooperation between EduC and other FISU committees such as CDSU.

Of course the preparation status of the next events organised by FISU was a big part of the agenda, starting with a round table on the last Forum. In terms of Forums, the Chair will conduct an inspection visit to Gwangju, Republic of Korea, where the 2014 Forum will take place. She also commented on the launch of the candidature process for the 2016 FISU Forum.

Regarding  the Universiades, the next educational events are the FISU Conference in Kazan during the Summer Universiade. The Conference will be organised for the first time in the Village from July 14th to 17th, and the Scientific Conference hosted by Trento Winter Universiade on December 9th and 10th, 2013. For the FISU Conference in Kazan, Liliya Barieva, the Director for Education and Knowledge Transfer, presented a progress report.

The Chair presented a report based on her meeting with the Organising Committee of the 2013 Rector’s Forum, to be held on June 11th-14th in Umea, Sweden.

The role of the Education Committee as a support for FISU activities related to sporting events was also part of the agenda. The members gave their inputs on how to optimise the seminars and meetings FISU organises to deliver the Games.

A special session of the meeting was dedicated to the media. The goal was to present new communication tools to members and present the new FISU partners in this specific field.  This session allowed members to better understand the opportunities to improve the visibility of the FISU educational activities.

The members also brainstormed on the setting up of an educational network within FISU.
