President's Message on the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace

Dear colleagues,

Dear friends,

As many of you know, this coming 6 April is the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace and I am encouraging all 170 Member Associations of FISU to mark the day with a celebration or initiative of some sort.

IOC President Thomas Bach – during a recent meeting with me and FISU Secretary General/CEO Eric Saintrond – asked the FISU Family to join the Olympic Movement in celebrating the day and promoting sport as a tool for building tolerance and understanding throughout the world. In light of all the terrorist attacks seen in the past year, and most recently the shocking violence of the attacks on Brussels airport and on the metro, I believe that celebrating the 6 April in some way is very important.

So I invite all of you to join your National Olympic Committee and friends in the wider sports world on 6 April and promote sport’s universal values such as teamwork, fairness, discipline and respect and its social values of solidarity and peaceful coexistence.

Please do promote your celebrations or initiatives through your own communications channels. We look forward to seeing and hearing how you mark the day.

With warm regards,

Oleg Matytsin,

FISU President
