#WUAlmaty2017: Update Curling – Day 5

ALMATY – Great Britain’s men’s team have become the first team to qualify for the curling play-offs in the 2017 Winter Universiade, being held in the Almaty Arena, in Almaty, Kazakhstan.

 

Skip Bruce Mouat’s team kept their 100% round robin record intact, in the penultimate day of the round robin, with a 10-4 win over Japan, in just seven ends.

 

Also on the men’s side Czech Republic beat Canada, 8-2; USA won against Russia 7-5, helped largely by a score of three points in the third end; Norway defeated hosts Kazakhstan 8-0 and Sweden won against Korea 8-5. 

 

 

On the women’s side, where there were two games each on Friday, Canada, Great Britain and Switzerland are all tied in first place.

 

Canada women posted a 13-2 win over the hosts Kazakhstan, while Switzerland passed Germany by a single point in an extra end, 5-4 and Great Britain beat Korea 9-6 in the morning. There were also wins in this session for Sweden and Russia.

 

In the evening, Canada beat Korea 8-2; Great Britain lost out to Sweden 8-7 and Switzerland won against Kazakhstan in six ends. China and Germany also posted wins in the evening.
