Slovak NUSF Celebrates 90th Anniversary

Today, October 23rd, in Bratislava, the Slovak University Sports Association celebrated its 90th Anniversary of establishing university sports in Slovakia. Deputy Prime-Minister and Minister of Education, Mr.Jan Mikolaj; the President of the Slovak Olympic Committee, Mr. Frantisek Chmelar; the rectors of the Slovak Universities; representatives of Slovak faculties and other officials together with the stars of university sports of the past were present at this celebration.

Mr. Anton Znasik, the President of SAUS, welcomed all representatives at this historical moment and referred in his speech to the important historical facts which had and still have a direct impact on the development of Slovak University Sports.

FISU was represented by its Director for the Winter Universiade, Milan Augustin, who congratulated the FISU Member Association or its outstanding work as an active member and former Universiade host in the past and presented a souvenir gift as a token of friendship and mutual respect to the SAUS President.

The celebration was attended by representatives of other FISU Member Associations as well, such as Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovenia, together with Mathias Peczovnik, the Secretary-General of EUSA, the European Associate Member of FISU.

After the speeches which were moderated by Dusan Hamar, Vice- Chair of the FISU Medical Committee, a number of athletes and officials were awarded with medals by SAUS. At the end all participants were invited to a lunch at the Faculty of Sport and Education of the University of Bratislava.
