MOSCOW – On 6 December, 2016 the annual Gala ‘University Sports Stars’ took place at the State central concert hall ‘Russia’ in Moscow. The solemn ceremony was held to praise this year’s best student-athletes as well as Russian sports federations, universities, state and non-governmental organisations for their contribution to the promotion and development of university sports in Russia.

The Gala was organized by the Russian Students Sport Union with the support of the Moscow city government.
A number of high-ranking officials have attended the ceremony to personally congratulate award winners, including FISU President Oleg Matytsin, Secretary of the Russian Presidential Council for the Development of Physical Culture and Sport Aleksey Kulakovsky; Deputy Minister of Sport of Russia Natalya Parshikova, Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Russia Veniamin Kaganov and the Russian Students Sport Union President Sergey Seyranov. Some of world-known sports stars were among the honorary guests of the evening, including Svetlana Khorkina, two-times Olympic Champion.
The decoration of award winners turned into a bright show, held in a cheerful atmosphere and alternated with lively music performances by popular artists.
