Russian Students Sport Union hosts 2017 University Sport Stars Gala

 The Gala honored the very best of Russian University Sport in 2017

The Russian Students Sport Union, with support from the Presidential Executive Office, the Moscow Government, hosted the fifth annual “University Sports Stars Gala” in the State Central Concert Hall Rossia on Monday, 11th of December.

 

 

On behalf of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, the Aid to the President of the Russian Federation and Vice-President of the Russian Olympic Committee Igor Levitin welcomed the guests and organizers to the University Sports Stars Gala.

 

FISU President Oleg Matytsin was a distinguished guest at the RSSU University Sports Stars gala 

Joining FISU President Oleg Matytsin and President of the Russian Students Sport Union Sergey Seyranov at the gala was the Secretary of State, Deputy Minister of Sport of the Russian Federation Natalya Parshikova; Deputy Minister of Sport of the Russian Federation Sergey Kosilov; and the Head of the Department of Physical Fitness and Sport Nikolay Gulyaev.

One of the main guests were the winners of the international and national university sports competitions, heads and representatives of local sports and educational authorities, national sports federations, students sport leagues, delegations from the universities, the rector’s community and national sports legends.

 

ROC First Vice-President Stanislav Pozdnyakov, a four-time Olympic champion with Sergey Bida, a two-time Universiade medalist 

The ceremony included well-known Russian athletes, including USSR Merited Master of Sports, Olympic champion, World champion, four-time European champion, seven-time USSR champion Sergey Tarakanov. The basketball legend, whom is also an Ambassador to the Krasnoyarsk 2019 Winter Universiade, attracted the attention of the occasion from participants and guests alike.

The “Burevestnik” awards are always a highlight of gala, and this year was no exception. Seven groups and individuals were presented nominations, which included the best student-athlete and teams at the Almaty 2017 Winter Universiade and Taipei 2017 Summer Universiade, best university, best sport project, for significant contribution to the development of university sports movement, and RSSU partners.

 

 

The event’s cultural programme was infused with the unmistakeable spirit of university sport 

The award ceremony culminated with bright performances from Russian pop and dance artists.
