Qatar intends to become a Member of FISU

DOHA – During his visit in Qatar for the FIBA 3×3 All Stars, Leonz Eder also paid a visit to Qatar University where he met with Khalid Mohammed Al-Khanji, Vice-President for Student Affairs, and Abdulla Al-Shandoor Al-Yafei, Associate Vice-President for Student Life and Services and HoD of the Qatar delegation at the 2015 Summer Universiade in Gwangju, Korea. He encouraged the Qatar academic authorities to become a member of FISU. According to them it’s a sincere desire of Qatar to apply for the FISU membership, and the necessary administrative steps for this procedure have already started. Following the example of Oman, Qatar will establish a Committee for University Sports which will be recognized by the Qatar Olympic Committee.

Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Member of the advisory board of Qatar University For The College of Art and Science, underlined the importance of Qatar becoming a FISU member. “I will personally talk to the President of Qatar University, Dr. Hassan Rashid Al-Derham, in order to proceed with the application,” the member of the ruling family said. FISU 1st Vice-President Leonz Eder mentioned that the admission of Qatar into the FISU family could be possible at the next General Assembly in 2017 if all the required documents will be provided to FISU.
