FISU Mourns Passing of Former EC Member Enno Harms

FISU 17 August 2009

It is with great sorrow and deep sadness that we have learned the passing away of Former FISU EC Member and EUSA Honorary President, Mr. Enno Harms, on August 12, 2009, in Hanover, Germany after a long illness.

FISU grieves over the loss of our dear friend who dedicated his life to the university sports movement.

Born in 1947, Mr. Harms spent more than 40 years of his life promoting university sport, in Germany, Europe and the World. Fulfilling a double mandate as a FISU Assessor between 1991 and 1999, and being one of the originators of EUSA Mr. Harms was elected EUSA President in 1999, a mandate he carried out until 2005. That same year he was nominated as the EUSA Honorary President.

Since 1973 he was a member of the Executive Board of the ADH, the German FISU Member Association of which he was the President between 1991 and 1992. The FISU key moment for Mr. Harms was when he fulfilled the task of Vice-Chair of the Organizing Committee of the 1989 Summer Universiade in Duisburg.

Professionally he was connected to the University of Hanover as its Director of the Department for University Sport.

We convey all of our sympathy to his family, his wife and four children.
