FFSU hosts its Medical Colloquium

FISU 8 December 2016

LILLE – On the side-lines of the 11th edition of the Master’U BNP Paribas university tennis tournament, the annual medical symposium of the Fédération Française du Sport Universitaire (FFSU) took place on 2 and 3 December in Marcq-en-Baroeul, attended by 27 participants: doctors, physiotherapists, dentists and chiropodists.

The symposium was divided in two parts: a first part was intended for physiotherapists and chiropodists, then a second for all the medical and paramedical staff involved with the FFSU.

The first part, on 2 December gave rise to a training course ‘Prevention and Civil Relief Level 1’ carried out by the Civil Protection North unit and aimed at the physiotherapists of the federation. Indeed, the National Medical Commission imposes that each physiotherapist accompanying a team from FFSU, knows the important life-saving emergency procedures. The FFSU is the only university sports federation in Europe to impose this training on its physiotherapists and chiropodists. A total of 12 physiotherapists and 2 chiropodists participated and passed this ‘First Aid’ training.

The second part, on 3 December, was devoted to the annual medical colloquium. The meeting was attended by 27 persons (doctors, dentists, physiotherapists and chiropodists).

Several speakers followed each other throughout the day:

– Jean François Niemezcki, the French Football Federation’s coach and co-coach of the France University Women’s Football team (gold medallist at the 2015 Gwangju Universiade) presented ‘The demands of football coaches to their medical staff’;

– Dr. Lilian Lebegue described ‘the medical evolution of a professional football club, Stade de Reims’

– Dr. Nicolas Barizien explained ‘the craniofacial and cervical spine trauma in football and rugby’ and ‘the medical-kinesiotherapy report of the Universiade of Gwangju 2015’ as well;

– Dr. Thông Nguyen has developed various sports medical information;

– Finally, Laboratoire BOIRON gave a 2-hour presentation on ‘homeopathy in sports practice’ in order to be able to equip physiotherapists who assist a university team from France with a homeopathic medical kit.
