FADU delegation promotes university sports at Sao Tome and Príncipe

LAUSANNE – A delegation from FADU – Portugal University Sports was at São Tomé e Príncipe between February 2 and 5, to sign a protocol with the Federation of University Sports of São Tomé (FDU – STP).

 

Daniel Monteiro, president of FADU, and Paulo Santos, administrator, met with members of the FDU – STP and members of the academic associations of São Tomé, as they began the visit. The initial meeting was attended by the Academic Associations of the Lusíada University of São Tomé e Príncipe, the University Institute of Accounting, Administration and Informatics, the Higher Institute of Education and Communication and the Faculty of Health.

 

At that activity, FADU delegation explained the organizational structure of Portuguese student associations and the important role played at the development of the country, in the some sectors of society, “not only in education but also in culture, youth and of course at sports” .

 

The FADU president also explained the “contribution that academic and student associations have made to the growth of Portuguese university sport”, in parallel with the reality of São Tomé, “where student associations present themselves as strategic axes for the definition of a new sporting and university policy in the country “.

 

After the meeting with the students, Daniel Monteiro and Paulo Santos met with the Dean of the University of São Tomé and Príncipe, the president of the Faculty of Health, and also the rectors of the University Institute of Accounting, Administration and Information Technology, of Lusíada University of São Tomé e Príncipe, as well as with the director of Higher Education of São Tomé.

 

Another of the highlights of this visit was the discussion on “university sports in promoting cooperation between CPLP countries”, where FADU highlighted the importance of this type of cooperation as “a way of promoting the Portuguese language and the cultures of each country” and “a privileged space of action in the areas of sport, education and youth”. This discussion was attended by several young university students, as well as representatives of several national sports federations, the Olympic Committee of Sao Tome e Principe and the Director of Sports .

 

After that debate, FADU delegation held a meeting with the Minister of Youth and Sports, Dr. Marcelino Sanches, and with the Director of Sports, Dr. Angélico Santos, where delivered sports equipment to the Federation of University Sports of São Tomé e Príncipe.

 

FADU visit to São Tomé e Príncipe promoted the signing of a protocol for the development of university sports in São Tomé, where the Portuguese Federation will provide institutional support to the recently created Federation of University Sports, as well as training its leaders, technical and material support and also the stimulation of exchanges between the two countries.

 

FADU has not left the contact with some of the stars of sport at São Tomé, having the opportunity to attend a training of national taekwondo teams.
