ULIASTAI CITY – ‘The Regional Universiade Games’ are organized traditionally every year among students from the western Mongolian regional vocational universities and community colleges. This year’s edition was held for the 18th time in Uliastai city, Zavkhan province from 25 to 27 September, 2015 and involved some 300 student-athletes, coaches, administrations and staff from 7 universities and colleges, i.e. Khovd University, the National University of Mongolia in Zavkhan province, National University of Tuva from the Russian Federation, the Mongolian National University of Medical Science in the Gobi-Altai province, the Khovd University branch in the Bayan-Ulgii province, the Labor Institute in the Uvs province and the Polytechnic College in the Zavkhan province. The 18th Regional Universiade was organized in 6 sports disciplines, i.e. basketball, beach volleyball, woodball, chess, table tennis and national wrestling. In addition, there was art festival hosted concurrently.
Khovd University (score 186) finished first continuing the winning streak of the previous year, ahead of the Mongolian National University of Medical Science in Gobi-Altai province (score 164) while this year’s host, the National University of Mongolia in Zavkhan province (score 135) settled for 3rd place.
The Cabinet Secretariat of Government of Mongolia, the Local Governor’s House of Zavkhan province, the Mongolian University Sports Federation and the National University of Mongolia in Zavkhan province successfully co-hosted the event. The closing ceremony of the Regional Universiade was performed in the Musical Hall of Zavkhan province while Mr. Jamiyantav J., the Governor of Zavkhan province, Mrs. Erdenechimeg M., the President of the National University of Mongolia in Zavkhan province and Mrs. Erdenetuya Ch., the Executive Director of NUSF Mongolia delivered their speeches congratulating the participants.
The MSSF flag was handled to the Mongolian National University of Medical Science in the Gobi-Altai province which will host the next edition in September 2016. At the same time, representatives from Khovd University received the right to organize the Regional Games in 2017.
