Inspection Visit 2019 SU Candidate City

Summer Games 25 February 2016

NAPLES – Following the official confirmation of the candidature of Naples (ITA) for the 2019 Summer Universiade, a FISU delegation, consisted of the Summer Universiade Director Marc Vandenplas, the Summer Universiade Manager Jing Zhao and the Executive Assistant Melanie Stallecker, is conducting a technical evaluation visit to the city from 22 to 26 February in order to further review its candidature profile.

On the first morning, a general introduction meeting was held in the Headquarters of the Campania Region. The meeting was led by Fulvio Bonavitacola, the Deputy President of Regional Government, with presence of the CUSI Secretary General Antonio Dima, as well as his team from CUSI. During this meeting, the Campania Region introduced its bidding concept and expressed its warm wishes for hosting the event. Indeed, the organisation of the Summer Universiade in Naples would be pictured as part of the youth projects for the region, and would provide valuable tangible and intangible legacies for the local communities and young generation. CUSI has showed its strong supports from both political and technical level, and took the lead of coordinating this evaluation visit.

Starting from the afternoon, the FISU delegation was divided into several groups to have onsite inspections at the potential Athletes’ Village, the major sport venues as well as conducting functional evaluation meetings with the regional government and CUSI.

The visit will be concluded on 26 February with a wrap-up meeting to summarise all the outcomes and the report will be presented to the FISU Executive Committee for its further evaluation during the EC Meeting in March.
