2021 WU Bidding Candidate Lucerne presents Bid Book

 LAUSANNE – On Friday 22 January, 2016, the Bidding Committee of the 2021 Winter Universiade which represents the governments of the cantons of Central Switzerland and the City of Lucerne and represented by Urs Hunkeler, officially handed over its bidding book to FISU Secretary General/CEO Eric Saintrond and Director of Winter Universiade Milan Augustin.

After the evaluation visit, which will take place from 10 to 12 February, 2016, the candidature of Lucerne will be submitted to the EC of FISU during the Brussels meeting on 5 March, 2016. If the decision of the EC is positive, the 30th edition of the Winter Universiade will return to Switzerland, 59 years after the 1962 Winter Universiade in Villars that gathered 273 athletes and 70 officials representing 21 countries.

FISU nowadays relies on the very strong experience and high international standards of the sports venues in Central Switzerland which is geographically, the heart and historically, the origin of Switzerland, with the cantons of Uri, Schwyz, Obwalden, Nidwalden, Lucerne and Zug.

The proposed general concept of the 2021 Winter Universiade is composed of 9 sports as follows:

–        Andermatt/Realp – Biathlon Venue

–        Stoos – Alpine Skiing

–        Einsiedeln – Cross-Country Skiing

–        Engelberg – Curling/Freestyle Skiing and Snowboard

–        Lucerne-Figure Skating and Short Track

–        Sursee – Women’s Ice Hockey

–        Zug – Men’s Ice Hockey
