2017 WU: Volunteers Stage a Flashmob

Winter Games 23 January 2017

ALMATY – On 22 January, volunteers of the 2017 Winter Universiade assembled in a picturesque flashmob event in a square in front of Trade and Recreational House Dostyk Plaza in Almaty. Some hundred people lined up forming the letter U chanting the slogans of the coming competitions.

One of the main aims of the flashmob event held was to show that the volunteers are ready for the sport events to kick off shortly. The Winter Universiade in Almaty will engage a total of 3,000 volunteers who mostly represent Kazakhstan’s universities but there are representatives from the neighbouring and overseas countries as well.

“Our volunteers are first of all positive people who create the atmosphere of the Universiade.  We want to show that all the volunteers are cheerful persons and they are prepared to receive guests. By means of flashmobs we are creating that special atmosphere around the volunteers and the Universiade.  These events will also unite all volunteers and raise a team spirit”, said Ablay Kondybayev, the head of the Department for Work with Volunteers at the Directorate for Preparation and Holding of 28th Winter Universiade 2017.

The 28th Winter Universiade 2017 will take place in Almaty from 29 January until 8 February.
