2017 WU: FISU President arrives in Almaty

ALMATY – “Education, Sport and Culture can bring stability and development to today’s world,” FISU President Oleg Matytsin told reporters at his arrival at the Airport in Almaty.

FISU President MatytsinThe FISU President arrived today early in the morning in Almaty to participate in the 28th Winter Universiade. At the airport, Mr. Matytsin was greeted by the Head of Directorate of the Universiade-2017 Nail Nurov. FISU President Matytsin received a warm welcome by the Universiade Organizing Committee following a traditional Kazakh welcoming rite ‘shashu’.

Oleg Matytsin arrived in advance of the official Opening Ceremony of the Winter Universiade to preside the FISU Executive Committee prior to the games. Speaking about the preparation for the Winter Universiade in Almaty, the FISU President pointed out the difficulties in the organisation of such a large-scale sporting project, which requires the coordinated interaction of FISU, the Universiade Organizing Committee, the National University Sport Federations and the city administration. Mr. Matytsin noted that throughout the preparation for the games, FISU and the Almaty Organising Committee have been working together as one team.

The FISU President wished the athletes good luck for these games. “Most importantly is the fact that the Universiade participants will experience the joy of communicating with each other and return home united. Sport as an Ambassador of Peace”, Oleg Matytsin added.
