Summer Games 6 March 2017

TAIPEI CITY – Taoyuan International Airport MRT (Metro Taoyuan) has been open to the public for test rides since February 16 (until March 1) 2017. TUOC CEO Li-Chiung Su, Deputy CEOs Chun-Ming Hsueh and Shi-Ming You led colleagues from 19 Universiade Organizing Committee divisions on the Airport MRT test ride during which they experienced its speed and stability at first-hand. In the near future, international spectators will be able to take the MRT to Xinzhuang Sports Park or transfer to Metro Taipei to view 15 sports, reaching the venues they want quickly without any hassle.

During the test ride, TUOC were greeted by Taoyuan Metro Corporation President Kun-Yi Liu and President Kai-Ling Chen. The Metro Taoyuan has 21 stations, of which Taipei Main Station (A1) connects to the Tamsui-Xinyi and Bannan MRT lines, giving quick access to nine venues including Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center and Taipei Tianmu Baseball Stadium; Sanchong Station (A2) provides transfer to the Zhonghe-Xinlu line, allowing spectators to easily reach the venues for five sports, including swimming marathon, baseball and football; Linkou Station (A9) is near to the Athletes’ Village (AV). Athletes and officials from 150 countries housed in the Village will be able to travel to and from the station on the shuttle buses that will operate during the games.

Athletes and guests will be able to travel on the Metro Taoyuan, Metro Taipei, and buses in Taipei City and New Taipei City using the 13,000 smart watches with EasyCard functions that will be offered by the Organizing Committee. Visitors can take in the sights of Taoyuan City, Taipei City and New Taipei City with ease. The influx of visitors is expected to effectively promote the local economy.

TUOC took an express train from Taipei Main Station to Taoyuan International Airport Terminal 1 station and tried out the on-board free Wi-Fi service. On the return trip, they took a commuter train and found that cellular reception was good along the entire route. Once the Airport MRT officially begins operating, the Universiade transportation network will be completed. The transportation system will ease the traffic congestion at peak times and create a win-win-win situation for the residents of Taoyuan City, New Taipei City and Taipei City.
