2013 SU Update: Kazan to host European Weightlifting Championship in April

KAZAN From April 7-17 the capital of Tatarstan will host the 90th Men and 24th Women European Weightlifting Championships. It is expected that the tournament will assemble over 240 strongest weightlifters from 40 nations.

The event is organised by the International and European Weightlifting Federations, Ministry of Sports, Tourism and Youth Policy of the Russian Federation, Ministry of Youth Affairs, Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Tatarstan, Russian Weightlifting Federation and Kazan 2013 Executive Directorate.

On the threshold of such a large-scale event EWF TC David Goldstrom paid an inspection visit to Kazan. The purpose of the visit is to assess the city’s readiness for the European Championship. In the course of his visit David Goldstrom met with First Deputy Director General of the Kazan 2013 Executive Directorate and Universiade Village Mayor Farid Abdulganiev and other Kazan 2013 officials. The meeting saw discussion on accommodation and catering services, transportation, the tournament’s time schedule and programme and accreditation concept.

David Goldstrom visited Basket Hall which is to become the main venue of the European Championship. While touring the largest basketball complex in Russia, the EWF TC got acquainted  with the venue’s preparation progress for the event.
