FISU Treasurer Meets with Auditors at FISU HQ

FISU 28 September 2010

BRUSSELS Yesterday, September 27th, the FISU Treasurer Mr. Danzandorj Bayasgalan had his regular meeting with the FISU auditors and bankers. He was joined by FISU Financial Director Mrs. Uyan Bekhbat and FISU Secretary-General/CEO Eric Saintrond.

‘The financial management of all FISU activities is a challenging task: the Headquarters in Brussels, the Lausanne Office, the Winter and Summer Universiades, the World University Championships and not to forget the educational activities like the Forum and the Conference’, FISU Treasurer Mr. Bayasgalan explains. ‘Therefore, these regular meetings with our bankers and auditors are important as we want to be as transparent as possible in our financial reports to the Executive Committee and to our member associations. This is the only possible way to make our members understand the financial matters of running a big organization such as FISU which is quite complicated and need our constant attention.’

Despite the worldwide financial crisis FISU is still a healthy organization. ‘We are a non-profit organization and not leveraged with stock markets. However, we have to be very careful with our resources as with the current situation of the world economy it is difficult to predict the future, although a recovery is expected next year, which will have an impact on the FISU activities. It will be interesting to see which cities will be candidates to host the 2017 Universiades’, the FISU Treasurer contemplated.

Mr. Bayasgalan also saw a rise in University Sport activities in his home country Mongolia. ‘We have some 170,000 university students and we witness more sponsorship for our activities, which is very welcome as we are not funded by the government. The hosting of FISU World University Championships and AUSF Championships in the last decade also raised the popularity of university sport in my country’, Mr. Bayasgalan told FISU Media. ‘But so far a Universiade is out of our league.’
