Fire & Ice: Krasnoyarsk 2019 Flame Torch Unveiled

Winter Games 26 July 2018

Welcome to Real Winter!

A flame that passes through nineteen snowflakes and is carried forward by the wind: such is the poetic design of the Krasnoyarsk 2019 Winter Universiade torch, which was unveiled for the first time in the Siberian city that will host the Winter Universiade from 2-12 March, 2019.

A total of 650 torchbearers will take part in the Universiade Torch Relay, with the route passing through 30 Russian cities including Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Kazan, Grozny, Vladivostok and many others. On the opening day of the 2019 Winter Universiade, the flame will be lit in the City Cauldron, installed near Platinum Ice Arena. Fire and ice, indeed.

The torch was officially presented at the Variant-999 plant in Krasnoyarsk, where it was assembled. During the presentation, the different modes of the torch burning were demonstrated; including how it will burn even in severe weather, when a torchbearer runs through rain and strong wind. Remember, the Krasnoyarsk 2019 Winter Universiade promises to be ‘Real Winter, Real Sport’.

The names of those selected for the rare honour of being torchbearers will be known on 20 August, 2018. And once the Universiade Torch relay is underway, the flame will burn bright all the way until the Opening Ceremony on the 1st of March, 2019. Keep track of the countdown clock here, on the official website of the 2019 Winter Universiade.
