15th WUC Golf – Results Day 1

CRANS-MONTANA – The first day of competition of the 15th World University Golf Championship took place under rain, fog and finally clouds and sun.

After 18 holes on the new version of the Ballesteros course, more than 13 men are playing for the top positions below the par. Within those 13, ten nations are represented. Spain, Sweden and Japan place two players in this leading group. The best performances are to be credited to Gavin Kyle Green (MAS) and Daniel Berna (ESP) with a score of -4 and Adam Björkegren (SWE) -3. The first Swiss player, Roberto Francion shares the 7th place with seven other players at -1.

 

First Round for the Ladies

The first tee off for the ladies’ competition took place at 12:10 and saved them from the bad weather of the morning. Six ladies ended this first round below the par. With a score of -3, the Czech player, Katerina Ruzickova is currently placed first* followed at the second place by the Spanish player Silvia Banon. The third place is currently owned by four golfers, Mari Jose Navarro (MEX), Kyung Kim (USA), Marta Sanz (ESP) and Tsz Ching Chan (HKG).

 

Forecast for Wednesday and Thursday

After two days of rain and fog, the two upcoming days shall  see no rain and the conditions shall be ideal for excellent performances from our student-golfers.

 

*The best score of the day was achieved by the player from Chinese Taipei Yi-Chen Liu who will not be ranked in the tournament as she is a professional. FISU regulations mention that all players shall be amateurs.
