2016 WUC Team Competition Draws coming up

30 May 2016

LAUSANNE – The team competition draws for the World University Championships in Futsal, Handball and Rugby Sevens will take place later this week at the FISU HQ in Lausanne, Switzerland.

23rd WUC Handball

The 23rd WUC Handball will take place in Málaga, Spain (27 June – 3 July) and will see the hosts face off against current men’s World and Universiade Champions Portugal and other top IHF teams such as Russia, Egypt or Romania. In the women’s tournament, a new world champion will be crowned given the absence of Brazil’s women’s team. The 2013 Summer Universiade champion Russia is the tournament favourite but will have to face Romania, Poland and the hosts Spain to clinch the title.

15th WUC Futsal

The 15th WUC Futsal will be hosted in Goiânia, Brazil (3-10 July) and an exciting tournament is expected. Hosts Brazil will be welcoming none less that reigning men’s World Champions Russia and other top futsal nations such as Portugal, Kazakhstan, Thailand and Argentina, amongst others. The women’s tournament is set to beat the participation record with 9 teams from 4 continents participating – the main question being can anyone stop the 5-time winning host nation?

7th WUC Rugby Sevens

Rugby Sevens will kick-off in Swansea, Great Britain (7-9 July) and both genders have 10 teams lining up at the start. In the men’s tournament, the hosts and current World Champions will look to hold off strong opponents in France, Australia, Argentina and Italy, amongst others. Canada’s current women’s title will require defending against the likes of the 2014 silver medallists France or Australia, New Zealand, China and of course the hosts Great Britain.

All draws can be followed live on the FISU Facebook page (www.facebook.com/FISU.InternationalUniversitySport/).
