Successful 1st ODUPA Sport Training Forum

The 1st Sport Training Pan-American Universities Forum was held in the Technological Institute of Costa Rica from April 1st to April 4th in order to create a meeting place for Physical Education professionals, Sports and related to analyze, discuss and study university sports.

The Forum’s president and chief, Rosaura Mendez, treasurer of the Pan-American Universities Sports Organization (ODUPA), informed FISU of the successfully participation of 270 teachers, trainers and managers of Costa Rica and the international participation of Panama, Honduras, Nicaragua, Chile, El Salvador, Cuba and Barbados.

“The topics that were discussed in the forum were related to control and evaluation of sport training, university sports management and sport trainings processes, unifying for 3 days the sportive way of thinking. We hope that these 3 days become longer and that we can start walking in the same direction with the end to strengthen FISU, ODUPA and the internal sports of our universities”, said Mayda Losada , international speaker from Cuba.

On Wednesday, April 1st, the first forum day, it was announced that the Central American and the Caribbean University Sports Games will be celebrated in Costa Rica in July 2010 and organized by FECUNDE. This resolution has finally been taken by the national council of rectors (CONARE) that at the beginning has questioned this hosting because of the world economical crisis.

This forum was a joint effort of the Pan-American Universities Sports Organization (ODUPA) together with the Costa Rican Universities Sports Federation (FECUNDE) and the Technological Institute of Costa Rica (ITCR) to improve the sports management and training in the Pan-American area.

The forum was properly inaugurated by ITCR principal Eugenio Trejos B, ODUPA President Julio Jakob, the President of the Costa Rican Olympic Committee Henry Nuñez and the Costa Rican Sports Director Jorge Muñoz.
