FISU and WADA strengthen their Partnership

FISU 7 July 2016

MONTPELLIER – At the 2016 FISU Forum, Committee for the Education Services (EduC) chair Verena Burk and Director of Educational Services Kole Gjeloshaj met with World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Education Committee member Marc Peltier and Education Manager in the Education and NADO/RADO Relations Department Erin Tedford to discuss the future of the FISU-WADA Anti-Doping Programme for Universities and the Anti-Doping e-Textbook. FISU and WADA extend their partnership and will resume developing a resource to support universities from all over the world in introducing the topic of the fight against doping in sport.

Engaging university students is the perfect way to promote drug-free sport values to future sport leaders and professionals. Burk: “We believe that it is extremely important to offer a platform that students, scholars and teachers can refer to for the most updated information and data about this main issue in sport, but not only in sport, that is doping.” Peltier adds: “The e-Textbook is aimed to educate the future entourage of athletes because the athletes usually turn to their entourage when they have issues about anti-doping.”

The partnership has the following objectives:

  • to distribute and enhance the developed Anti-Doping e-Textbook and teaching material to raise the social awareness of the fight against doping in sport among first year university students;

  • to educate future practitioners, athletes, coaches and all leaders of sport on the dangers of doping in sport and their role in fighting doping in sport;

  •  to support universities in integrating anti-doping in different areas of study by identifying topics to be covered and providing support material for addressing in the classroom.

The FISU-WADA partnership project was part of the 2015 Gwangju Summer Universiade Organising Committee’s Legacy Programme, which took place in Korea from 3 till 14 July 2015 (e-Textbook was launched during the Conference at the Universiade). After now one year of receiving feedback on the e-Textbook there will be a revised version published in September.

The current version of the e-Textbook is available in English, French, Korean, Russian and Spanish. It is accessible free of charge, along with the support material for instructors, through an online platform, the Anti-Doping Learning Hub.
