14th FISU Forum in Krasnoyarsk

FISU 25 February 2016

KRASNOYARSK – At the recently held Krasnoyarsk Economic Forum (KEF2016), the FISU delegates handed over the Certificate to host the 14th FISU Forum in 2018 to Rector Evgeny Vaganov of the Siberian Federal University. The Forum is held biennially under the auspices of FISU for the development of university sport.

“I would like to thank the Krasnoyarsk citizens for their attentive and very responsible attitude which they revealed from the moment of obtaining the rights by Russia for staging of the 29th Winter Universiade Krasnoyarsk 2019. We have always singled out that one of the very important elements of organising and holding the Universiade is the presence of the Siberian Federal University in Krasnoyarsk. The existing base, city and University potential became crucial when taking the decision on hosting the Forum in Krasnoyarsk”, FISU President Oleg Matytsin pointed out.

The awarding of the Certificate to host the 2018 FISU Forum took place at the new Congress Hall of the Siberian Federal University which is the first completed venue of the Universiade Village where the information centre will be accommodated during the Games.

FISU Secretary General/CEO Eric Saintrond had an excursion in the building and pointed out that he is very satisfied with what he had seen. “This is not my first visit to Krasnoyarsk, in fact we have been following the construction of the Siberian Federal University Congress Hall from the very beginning. This process can be compared with the delivery of a child as you see him developing and growing up, you feel anxious and glad. We see the readiness of Krasnoyarsk for work, we see the passion of enthusiasts of the Universiade. After the competitions are over, all this will remain as a quality legacy represented by Krasnoyarsk for the whole world”, Eric Saintrond commented.

The 2018 FISU Forum Holding Certificate was presented to SFU Rector Evgeny Vaganov. “A wide range of issues will be discussed at the Forum: the future of University sports, its influence on socialisation and so on. This is an image building event, in many respects, it is important for the University and for the region as well because the representatives of many countries will meet here. The representatives of sports federations, students, sports leaders and administrators of University sports will have the possibility to meet and to discuss key issues of University sports development, education, culture and medicine”, the SFU Rector accentuated.

“The 14th FISU Forum will be held in Krasnoyarsk in August 2018. It will be organised on the campus of the Siberian Federal University and will last for six days. It is a big test event for Krasnoyarsk. We will be solving several global issues simultaneously:  we are to present the infrastructure of the Universiade, the Universiade Village and to prove that we are able to hold major international events. Hosting the Forum for us is a point of honour. I believe that together with SFU we will conduct it on an honourable level”, the Director General of the Executive Directorate of the 29th Winter Universiade Krasnoyarsk 2019 Maxim Urazov added.
