FISU Education Committee meets in Brussels

BRUSSELS The FISU Education Committee met in Brussels from 4 to 6 October at the FIDSU Headquarters. The purpose of this meeting was to prepare for future events, make changes to the regulations for educational events and develop new projects.

The Conference of the Trento Universiade to be held on 9 and 10 December, prior to the 2013 Winter Universiade, is the next educational event organized by FISU. It will be held in Rovereto and has as main theme ‘Sport and Innovation’. The report submitted by Alison Odell, Chair of the Committee after the meeting she had with the University of Trento on 26 and 27 September, focused on the awareness campaign developed by the OC to promote the Conference and ensure the presence of major quality speakers to contribute to the signing of a joint statement on this topic. Mrs. Odell took the opportunity to confirm the presence of the Committee members and their specific role.

The only delegation present at the EduCom meeting were the representatives of the Organising Committee of the 12th FISU Forum to be held from 17 to 22 March, 2014 in Gwangju, South Korea. The three delegates gave an update on the progress of the Forum preparations, reviewing during half a day the whole organizational aspect of the Forum that will bring together some 200 people from 60 countries. It was also an opportunity to prepare for the first inspection of the Conference of the Summer Universiade to be held in the same city during the 28th Universiade in July 2015.

The twelve members of the Committee also dedicated a work session to change legal documents that govern the educational events of FISU, mainly, regulations and contracts.

The last part of the meeting focused on the development of special projects such as the establishment of an international agency network, a mentoring programme, the structuring of the legacy programme (grant Universiade Daegu 2003) and a strategic partnership programme.

The next meeting will be held on 16 March, 2014 in Gwangju during the Forum.
