AUSF Executive Committee meets in Thailand

CHA AM On the afternoon of November 27th, the first session of the AUSF Executive Committee Meeting started at 15: 00 with the attendance of Senior Vice-President AL – Hai Omar A., Vice-Presidents CHANG Hosung and CHEN Kunning, Secretary-General Kenny CHOW, Vice Secretary-General XUE Yanqing, Treasurer SEETOW Cheng Fave, Assessors Hisato IGARASHI, JARGALSAIKHAN D., Mahdi TALEBPOUR, Preecha PRAYOONPAT and Auditors HA Woong Yong and ZAKIRYANOV Kairat. The meeting was presided over by the Senior Vice-President, because President ZHANG Xinsheng was delayed.

This EC meeting was actually a preparatory meeting for the General Assembly to be held 2 days later. The meeting started with agenda approval which was followed by the report of the Secretary-General. Before his report, he expressed his sincere gratitude to Thailand for its wonderful organization job and its hospitality towards AUSF families and all the GA meeting delegates. ‘ 20 years ago, the 1st AUSF General Assembly was held in Bangkok. After 20 year, we are back in Thailand again to celebrate the 20th anniversary of AUSF, which was quite meaningful and significant’ he said. ‘Therefore, I would like to thank Thailand for the unswerving supports to AUSF, on behalf of AUSF.’ In his report, the Secretary-General reviewed the jobs done in the past 2 years, including the events held in 2012, the support AUSF gained from FISU, the establishment of Sub-committees, and preparation for the 20th anniversary. After the reports, the sub-region chairmen shared their communication with the members in each sub-region. The highlighted of sub-regional event should be the 16th ASEAN University Games, which will be hosted from December 12th to 24th in Laos. More than 2,000 student athletes and officials will take part in this event.

Iran presented the final report on the AUSF Futsal Championship held this June, Singapore made the final report on the 2nd Asian University Water Polo Championship held this June and Malaysia made the final report on the 3rd Asian University Taekwondo Championship held this October. The 4th Asian University Men’s Basketball Championship just ended in Chinese Taipei, so the OC just submitted a written report.

Before the end of this section, the EC members discussed the Asian University Youth Festival, which is a diversified and comprehensive event of sports, cultural performance and forums. This proposal was approved in principle. The main debate was around the name of this event. Finally, the EC members approved to leave it to the General Assembly for further discussion.

After the meeting, the EC members went together to watch the AUSF Beach Volleyball competitions which are currently taking place in Cha Am.
