MADRID — A FISU delegation led by President Oleg Matytsin joined members, partners and friends of the European University Sports Association (EUSA) in the Spanish capital city for the EUSA General Assembly—an event running between the 12-14 April.
President Matytsin delivered a warm welcome message to the attendees, saying that “that I always feel like we are all part of the great university sports family” before continuing with the sentiment that if “we act as one team and share one goal — to help younger generations to maximize their potential, to help them to become the leaders of tomorrow can make our world a safer and better place to live.

“There is no doubt that sport, and university sport in particular, is part of the solution,” Mr. Matytsin added.
The FISU Continental Association assembly started with seminars on Thursday, which focused on giving a highlight overview of the university sport events from 2017 and progress reports on the upcoming 2018 and 2020 editions of the European Universities Games. In addition, candidate cities vying to host the sixth and seventh editions of the Games in 2022 and 2024 had a forum.
EUSA President Adam Roczek welcomed the participants and thanked everyone for attending during his opening speech. Mr. Roczek shared in FISU’s enthusiasm about the further development of university sport.
The Polish delegation from Lodz demonstrated their capacity and desire to host the biggest university sport event in Europe in 2022. The Hungarian cities of Debrecen-Miskolc presented their combined bid to host the 2024 Games, brilliantly explaining the significance of the project for the whole eastern region of the country and showed how having a two-city event who draw the best from the two neighbouring areas.
After the presentations, the bidding delegations had closed sessions with the EUSA Executive Committee who evaluated the bids. The final decision will be made tomorrow, during the EUSA General Assembly.
