European Universities Golf Championship 2013

LJUBLJANA The 3rd European Universities Golf Championship concluded on Saturday, 21 September, 2013 with an exciting Closing Ceremony at the Grand Casino of Forges-les-Eaux near Saint-Saëns in France. The Opening ceremony was held a week prior to this date – on September 17th in the great hall of the Athletes’ Village.

The competition was organized by the Regional University Sport Committee of Rouen – Haute-Normandie and the French University Sport Federation with a contribution of the University of Rouen, the Ministry in charge of sports and the Ministry in charge of higher education, the Region of Haute-Normandie, the Department of Seine-Maritime, Groupe Partouche and the Golf of Saint-Saëns.

The ideal yet challenging golf course and an array of top student golfers from all around Europe made this event especially interesting and offered great golf and memorable experiences on and off the course throughout the event, which started on 17 September.

Men’s Podium

Best results during the competitions were achieved by the students from the University of Stirling from the UK and the University of Hamlstad from Sweden.

At the closing ceremony, the 86 participants representing 13 universities from 7 countries first had a parade in the Street of the city from the Athletes’ Village to the Casino and upon arrival, a sumptuous buffet awaited the teams.

The Medal Ceremony followed, presented by Mr Kemal Tamer, EUSA Executive Committee member; Mr Jean-François Sautereau, President of the French University Sport Federation; Mr Didier Chollet, President of the Organizing Committee; Mr Kader Chekhemani, Vice-President of Region Haute-Normandie; Mr Cafer Ozkul, President of the University of Rouen, Mr Pierre Lordereau, President of the Regional Committee of Golf of Haute-Normandie; Mr Rob Macpherson, EUSA Technical Delegate; Mr Joël Decoudre, Deputy Mayor of Forges-les-Eaux and by Mr Jacky Hucher, Mayor of Saint-Saëns.

After the medals, Mr Rodolphe Vern, Director of Saint-Saëns Golf awarded Ms Emma Vestin, from Halmstad University (Sweden), for the women’s record of the golf course with a card of 65 (under 6) and Mr François Soulas from University of Bordeaux (France) for his Hole in 1 at the number 6. Mr Cormac Sharvin from the University of Stirling (UK) received the Fair Play Award.

During the dessert, the closing ceremony concluded this 3rd European Universities Golf Championship with speeches by the honourable guests. The EUSA flag was passed to Mr Daniel Studer, Director of the OC of the 4th European Universities Golf Championship which will take place in St Gallen in 2015.
