The European Universities Championships (EUC) organised by EUSA are in
full swing. This year EUSA organises championships in 15 sports. The majority of the events have already finished, EUC in Rowing, Golf,
Bridge and Taekwondo still have to be organised. Here is a short summary of the finished events:
VOLLEYBALL
The 9th EUC Volleyball was organised in Hamburg (GER) from May 17-24,
2009. 19 men and women universities teams participated in the event.
Mordovskiy State University, RUS (m) and University of Economy
Bydgoszcz, POL (w) won the gold.
RUGBY 7’s
Bristol, GBR was the host of the 3rd EUC Rugby 7’s. The event was held from June 10-12, 2009. 15 university teams (10 men, 5 women) fought for the titles of the European Universities Champions. Kuban State University of Physical Education, Sport and Tourism (RUS) won the men’s and the Exeter University (GBR) the women’s event.
HANDBALL
The 4th EUC Handball 2009 was organised in Ljubljana (SLO) from June 15-21, 2009. 12 men and 7 women university teams from 10 European countries participated on the event. Russian State University of Physical Education, Sport and Tourism, RUS (m) and University of Vincent Pol Lublin, POL (w) won the first places.
BASKETBALL
The 9th European Universities Basketball Championship took place from June 15-21, 2009 in Heraklion (GRE). 15 men’s and 12 women’s teams from 16 European countries participated on the championship. The champions were University of Ljubljana, SLO (m) and Russian State Agricultural University, RUS (w).
BADMINTON
The 6th European Universities Badminton Championship was organised from June 21-24, 2009 in Geneva (SUI). 18 teams with about 160 athletes participated in the event. The Team Event was won by the Academy of Humanities and Economics Lodz, POL.
KARATE
The 4th EUC Karate was held in Córdoba (ESP) from July 16-19, 2009. The
most successful University was the University of Las Palmas De Gran Canaria (ESP) with 3 gold and 1 silver medals.
FUTSAL
The 6th EUC Futsal 2009 was organised in Podgorica (MNE) from July 20-26, 2009. 210 participants were representing 16 men’s university teams from 15 European countries. The gold medal was won by the University of Malaga (ESP).
FOOTBALL
The 7th European Universities Football Championship was held in Wroclaw
(POL) from July 20-26, 2009. 14 men’s and 7 women’s university teams from 13 countries took part in the event. The Autonomia de Madrid, ESP won the women’s competition and the Ternopil Pedagogical Academy, UKR the men’s.
TABLE TENNIS
The EUC Table Tennis took place in Nis (SRB) from July 22-25, 2009. 18
Men’s and women’s university teams competed for the championship titles. Jan Dlugosz University, Czestochowa (POL) won the women’s team event, while Orenburg State University (RUS) won the men’s team event.
BEACH VOLLEYBALL
The 6th EUC Beach Volleyball was organised in Gdynia (POL) from July 29
– August 02, 2009. 76 participants were representing 26 university teams from 13 European countries. Krzysztof Orman & Rafal Szternel from the University of Lodz, POL and Kadri Puri & Natalja Bratuhhlina from the Estonian Business School, EST became the champions.
TENNIS
Poznań was the host city of the 6th EUC Tennis held from July 26th to
August 1st, 2009. 10 women’s teams and 12 men’s teams from 9 European countries participated on the event. University of Rouen II (FRA) won the men’s event and the Technical University of Ostrava (CZE) the women’s event.
Besides the European Universities Championships, EUSA will also organise the 6th EUSA Symposium from October 15-18, 2009 in Zadar (CRO), the EUSA Convention for the organisers of the 2010 EUC from November 6-8, 2009 in Ljubljana (SLO) and the 11th EUSA General Assembly from December 4-6, 2009 in Vienna (AUT).
