1st Asian University Chess Championship opens

BEIJING – The 1stAsian University Chess Championship kicked-off in Beijing, the capital city of China. The inaugural edition of this event is hosted by the Asian University Sports Federation and co-organized by the Federation of University Sports of China (FUSC) and the Capital University of Physical Education and Sports (CUPES). The championship lasts from 19 to 23 October in CUPES. More than 50 students from 9 Asian countries and regions including Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Mongolia, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Chinese Taipei, Vietnam and the host country China are competing at this event. In conjunction with this event, a Chess Workshop was hosted, which was the first training project of the AUSF Education and Development Center since its establishment in 2014.

Opening Ceremony

At 8:30, on the morning of 19th October, the grand opening of the 1st Asian University Chess Championship took place in the main building of the Capital University Of Physical Education and Sports (CUPES).

The ceremony started with a 5-minute video clip introducing AUSF, FUSC, CUPES and the championship and also giving background information of the establishment of AUSF Education and Development Center. AUSF Vice Secretary General and FUSC Vice-President XUE Yanqing, Assessor Preecha PRAYOONPAT, Assessor JARGALSAKHAN Dorjsuren, Technical Delegate Godigamuwage Luxman WIJESURIYA attended the ceremony, with CUPES leaders including Chairman of University Council ZHAO Wun, President ZHONG Bingshu and Vice President XIE Jun.

After a warm welcome of all the delegations, Mr. ZHONG Bingshu, President of CUPES made a welcome speech. He thanked AUSF to entrust the championship to CUPES and welcomed all the participants. Mr. XUE Yanqing announced the opening of the championship. The flag of AUSF slowly rose up in its anthem, solemnly declaring the start of this silent but fierce completion. The ceremony ended with the oaths from player representative and referee representative.
