9th European Universities Beach Volleyball Championship

PORTO – The 9th European Universities Beach Volleyball Championship has successfully concluded on July 28th with an exciting Closing Ceremony in Porto, Portugal. Over 150 participants from 33 Universities representing 17 countries took part in this year’s edition of the event which started on July 23rd. The matches, played in front of a full audience, were also broadcast live via webstreaming.

Men’s Podium

In the men’s finals, the title of champions went to Damian Wojtasik and Jaroslaw Lech from the University of Lodz (POL), who have won a thrilling final match against Michal Makowski and Sebastian Sobczak, also from the University of Lodz. In the women’s finals, the title went to Juliana Rosas and Tânia Oliveira from University of Fernando Pessoa, who have won an exciting final match against Izabela Soja and Aleksandra Filip from The Jerzy Kukuczka Academy of Physical Education in Katowice (POL).

Women’s Podium

Medals and awards were presented by president of Organizing Committee Mr Ruben Alves, Pro-rector from University of Porto Mr Manuel Janeira, representative of Polytechnical Institute of Porto Mr António Cardoso, representative of Porto City Hall Mr Hugo Neto, president of Academic University Sports Federation of Portugal (FADU) Mr Bruno Barracosa and member of EUSA Executive Committee Mr Fernando Parente.

Most valuable players’ awards were also recognised. After the closing speeches, the EUSA flag was passed to Mr Parente, member of the EUSA Executive Committee. The next EUSA beach volleyball event will be held in 2015 at the 10th European Universities Championship in Larnaca, Cyprus. Next year, in 2014, Porto will host the World University Beach Volleyball Championship at the same venues.
