26 May 2015

PÄRNU– On May 20th, Manuel Lohmann, FISU Substitute Technical Delegate for Beach Volleyball, together with Julien Carrel, WUC assistant, started their evaluation visit of Pärnu, the host city of the 8th World University Beach Volleyball Championship which will take place in July next year.

In the morning, FISU delegates examined the competition venue of the championship in Pärnu public beach and local beach club centre. They were joined by Tarmo Jaakson, Secretary-General of the Estonian Academic Sports Federation (EASF); Laos Lukas, Local Technical Delegate of the Estonian Volleyball Federation (EVF) and Erlend Aav, Director of the Pärnu Beach Club. The delegation went around and examined the press center, dining area, VIP area, training area, offices, medical care and the main sport competition area. The FISU delegates were both quite satisfied with the whole competition area next to the most popular Estonian beach.

After lunch, both delegates went to the Pärnu Tervis Hotel which will lodge all participants of the 2016 WUC Beach Volleyball. The meeting with the assistant manager of the hotel allowed them to check all the details and make sure that the Hotel will fulfil all FISU requirements.

Before ending the day, a fruitful meeting was held in the Estonian Volleyball Federation Headquarter with Tarvi Pürn, Secretary-General and Robin Ristmäe, event director. The meeting allowed FISU to overview all technical aspects of the organisation and make sure that the Organising Committee will be ready to host a great Championship in 2016. Everybody agreed to say that Pärnu has a high potential to organise a high quality WUC next year.
