3×3 FISU World University League 2016: The Teams are ready

LAUSANNE – The 3×3 FISU World University League final will take place from 21 to 23 October, 2016 in Xiamen (CHN) and all the teams are now officially known. Following the success of the inaugural edition last year, the tournament has grown to accommodate more teams and better represent how 3×3 Basketball is progressing within the University Sport Movement.

30 universities from 23 different countries will compete at the 2016 editionIn total, 32 teams representing the five continents will compete to win the 2016 edition of the FISU 3×3 WUL. The 16 male and 16 female teams are coming from 23 different countries, with 30 universities represented and will this year again fight for the men’s and women’s titles, including the individual shoot-out (women) and dunk (men) contests.

In both the men’s and women’s competition, 10 teams qualified for the final via continental Qualifying Tournaments held in Johannesburg (RSA) for Africa, Macau (MAC) for Asia, Zagreb (CRO) for Europe and Gold Coast (AUS) and Hamilton (NZL) for Oceania. Additionally, four wild cards were attributed per tournament and invitations to the 2015 winners and the host country.

With some of the best student-3×3 players in the world facing each other in Xiamen, the 2016 edition will offer those 128 athletes a chance to enjoy the university sport spirit and compete for a prestigious trophy representing their respective universities.
