2010 WUC Baseball Update: Places 5th to 8th

TOKYO Today, August 6th, the games for the lower rankings were played. Canada ends up in 5th place, followed by Chinese Taipei in 6th, China in 7th and Sri Lanka in 8th.

 

Canada vs. Chinese Taipei: 15-14 (10th inning)

Canada scored 2 runs in top of the 1st inning by a timely safe hit of Fleming, which was quickly overtaken in the bottom by a 3 run homer by Yang Kuan Wei of Chinese Taipei which added another run in the 2nd inning. Canada smashed a come-from-behind 3 base hit by Bell in the top of the 3rd inning with a total of 5 runs. Yang Kuan Wei of Chinese Taipei homered again for 2 runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning and subsequently Canada scored a total of 13 runs against Chinese Taipei’s 6 till the top of the 7th inning. Chinese Taipei scored 4 runs in the bottom of the 7th inning including a home run of Chen Wei Chih and closed behind Canada by 1 run after scoring 2 runs in 8th and tied the score in the bottom of the 9th inning bringing the game went into extra innings for the second time for the Championship. Canada scored 2 runs in top of the 10th inning by a timely hit of Ellis and sacrifices a fly of Fleming and won the game

although Chinese Taipei fought back with a run in the bottom.

 

China vs. Sri Lanka: 10-0

China scored a run by an error in the 2nd inning and added 2 more runs by consecutive homeruns of Chao Li and Xiaochen Zhan. Yu Chen in the 4th inning and Xiang Chen in the 6th contributed to China’s additional scores and called the game in the middle of the 8th by a margin of 10 runs. 5 safe hits of Sri Lanka was their best in the Championship but the team remained scoreless even though they loaded bases at one time.

IBAF President Present

 

 

Mr. Ricardo Fraccari, IBAF President was present at the game for the 5th and 6th place between Canada and Chinese Taipei. The IBAF President discussed the future of university baseball with Dick Naylor, the FISU Technical Delegate for Baseball. In the near future both will have a meeting in Lausanne with FISU Secretary-General/CEO Eric Saintrond and FISU Director for WUC Laurent Briel to discuss a closer collaboration between IBAF and FISU.

 

 

The CISCA members were invited by Japanese CIC member to visit the new JOC national training center. The sport facility uses the newest technology to train its athletes.
