LONDON – Arthur Zanetti, 22 years old, made history last Monday at the 2012 London Olympic Games. Member of the Brazilian male gymnastics team, the athlete won the final of the men’s rings in his first participation in the Olympiad. He also guaranteed the first Olympic medal in the Brazilian history of this sport as well, the second gold medal of Brazil in London.
Arthur was the last to performer and scored 15.900, leaving behind Yibing Chen from China, double Olympic champion and four times world champion, who scored 15.800, Matteo Morandi from Italy came in third with 15.733.
Zanetti, still in University, competed in the 26th Summer Universiade in Shenzhen, China, where he was the champion of the same event won in London.
Once more a proof about the potential and importance on investments of the participation of Brazilian athletes and other countries in international University competitions, where the level is so strong as the Olympic Games are, it also serves as preparation for young athletes for the Games.
In 2011, the Brazilian gymnast, placed second on Men’s rings final at the Gymnastics World Championships in Tokyo.
