Tough competition, challenging course at Winter Universiade 2019 test event

Winter Games 7 March 2018

Today, men’s slalom competitions took place in the Funpark “Bobrovy Log” as part of the Winter Universiade 2019 test event. Following the results of two races, the winner was Evgeny Pyasik from Moscow.

A total of 72 athletes took part in the men’s slalom competitions at the Russian Cup stage. The winner of the competitions is the master of sports of international class Evgeniy Pyasik. His overall result for the two races is 1 minute 37.50 seconds. After the first run the athlete was occupying the second position, falling behind the leader of the race Aleksey Ovchinnikov from Krasnoyarsk by 0.81 seconds. In the second race Alexey Ovchinnikov was disqualified for hitting the gates, and Evgeniy Pyasik won.

For Evgeniy Pyasik, this was far from his first victory: “I have participated in FIS competitions for 8 years now. Today’s run was not easy. At the Winter Universiade in Almaty the slopes were similar but still a little easier. We brought home two medals from Kazakhstan: in Super Giant I came second, losing just 0.03 seconds to the Italian, and we took the third place in the team race. But at the Winter Olympics in Korea, the course was very similar to yours, and I started there as well.”

Alexander Voronov finished second and sounded pleased with his result. “I am very happy. In slalom, I did not climb the podium at the Russian Cup, with a forth place finish my best result. I am pleased with this, but now it is time to move onwards and upwards.”

Nikita Guryanov finished third, with the skier from Moscow saying that the Krasnoyarsk courses were ready for international competitions: “Everything is really great, although it was tough. I am glad I took the third place. I hope to do it again at my next runs.”

The next races at this Winter Universiade 2019 test event in Alpine continue with the Downhill on the slopes of Funpark “Bobrovy Log” with an entertainment area for spectators of the competitors open during the event.
